Divisions

About Divisions

The professional Divisions of SRA International consist of members with a common area of interest within the field of research administration and that enrich our ability to conduct programs for research administrators with specific professional responsibilities and interests.

Commercial

The purpose of the Commercial Division is to assure that the programmatic activities of the Society meet the needs of members and other research administrators working in commercial organizations, and whenever possible the needs and interests of these organizations. The Division shall promote the programmatic activities of the Society and the effectiveness of research administration by:

  • Promoting the exchange of information among research administrators whose interest is in research administration in for-profit organizations, or in supporting or facilitation the administration of research through the provision of products and services to research administrators.
  • Developing and promoting professional standards for research administration in commercial organizations.
  • Improving relations between researchers and research administrators.
  • Such other activities as the membership of The Division shall adopt consistent with the bylaws of The Society.

Education

The purpose of the Education Division is to assure that the programmatic and educational activities of the Society meet the needs and interests of its members and other research administrators working in all academic settings, including all public and private colleges and universities, university hospitals, and academic departments or schools, and whenever possible the needs and interests of these organizations. The Education Division shall assist in fulfilling the mission of The Society by promoting the programmatic activities of the Society and the effectiveness of research administration by:

  • Promoting the exchange of information among research administrators whose interest is in research administration in the area of higher education research administration, through individual contacts, professional presentations, formal and informal meetings, publications, and in supporting or facilitation of the administration of research through the provision of products and services to research administrators;
  • Conducting research and making recommendations in the area of the administration of research as it applies academic settings, and particularly to higher education institutions;
  • Developing and promoting professional standards for research administration in academic organizations;
  • Improving communications and relations between researchers, host institutions  and organizations, the sponsors of research, research administrators, and the general public;
  • Such other activities as the membership of the Education Division shall adopt consistent with the bylaws of The Society.

Government

The purpose of the Government Division is to assure that the programmatic activities of the Society meet the needs of members and other research administrators working in government organizations, and whenever possible the needs and interests of these organizations. The Division shall promote the programmatic activities of the Society and the effectiveness of research administration by:

  • Promoting the exchange of information among research administrators whose interest is in research administration in government organizations, or in supporting or facilitation the administration of research through the provision of products and services to research administrators;
  • Developing and promoting professional standards for research administration in government organizations;
  • Improving relations between researchers and research administrators;
  • Such other activities as the membership of The Division shall adopt consistent with the bylaws of The Society.

Non-Profit

The purpose of the Nonprofit Division shall be to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the administration of research by:

  • Exchange of information among research administrators whose primary interest is in the area of Nonprofit research administration, through personal relationships, presentations, discussions, formal and informal meetings, and publications;
  • Conducting research in the area of the administration of research as it applies to Nonprofits’ research endeavors. Section 3. Development and promotion of professional standards for Nonprofits;
  • Improvement of the interface between research and its administration;
  • Such other activities as the membership shall adopt will be consistent with the bylaws of the Society.
