The workplace has always brought together multiple generations, each contributing unique perspectives toward shared goals. In research administration, our core mission remains consistent: providing exceptional support to our research communities to maximize their success. Traditionally, this mission was carried out within the familiar structure of office norms, typically defined by the times and technologies of the era.
However, the last decade—especially during and after the COVID-19 pandemic—has brought significant change. Remote work has become a new standard, replacing rigid 9-to-5 schedules with more flexible arrangements. Virtual meetings have largely supplanted in-person gatherings and our methods for collaboration and support continue to evolve in response to these changes.
This Coffee Talk will explore how these workplace transformations impact research administration. We’ll discuss strategies to embrace this evolution, ensure our work continues to thrive, and learn how to bridge generational differences. By integrating the strengths and values of each generation, we can foster a diverse, inclusive, and dynamic workplace environment that supports everyone
